Sebagaimana telah diketahui bahwa korosi adalah peristiwa rusaknya material yang disebabkan oleh lingkungan. Untuk mencegah terjadinya reaksi korosi ini dilakukan usaha memisahkan logam dari lingkungan yang mempengaruhinya, misalnya dengan menggunakan lapisan pelindung dan salah caranya dengan pelapisan cat.
